Real Money, Real Experts hosted by AFCPE®️

What would your career path look like if we could get the money piece in order?

As a recent podcast guest on Real Money, Real Experts hosted by AFCPE®️, I shared my journey highlights and the power of embracing life’s unexpected paths to find fulfillment in new dreams, like becoming an Accredited Financial Counselor.

But my path from lawyer to AFC wasn’t pre-ordained or even clear.

And that’s ok.

Many of my clients have no idea what the next stop on their career may look like…in fact, it’s often the case that they’ve been afraid to even consider other options because the money seems like such a big hurdle.

Sure, some of my people know they want to go in-house next, or move to government or public service, maybe a non-profit, or even start their own firm. And I love helping them backwards engineer those moves so they can make them with confidence.

But many of my clients just know they don’t want to spend the rest of their career in Biglaw (or whatever "law" they're in now.)

That’s as far as they’ve gotten.

And then when they try to think of what the next option could look like, they freeze.

Even when an interesting opportunity crosses their desk (or their LinkedIn feed) they don’t even consider how they could make it work.

Because the thought of losing that big salary is paralyzing.

I felt stuck in Biglaw for a long time, because the risk-adverse side of me could not let go. But going through the steps of making a plan to escape made all the difference.

And I found my true calling as an Accredited Financial Counselor and a true community with the  AFCPE.
