Let’s Talk About Law School Debt

As a former lawyer turned Accredited Financial Counselor, law school debt has been a pretty big deal in my life and the lives of my clients. The average law student now graduates with over $145,000 in student loan debt and it affects both their professional and personal lives. I graduated law school with over $200,000 in student loans and it shaped my entire legal career.

Check out a frank conversation about student loan repayment strategies, hear stories from folks who are still paying theirs off, and what it takes to come up with a plan of your own. In this Zoom session we covered:

  • The three main repayment strategies: repayment asap, forgiveness, and repay your way

  • Who should consider repayment ASAP and how to work through that decision

  • Who should consider forgiveness programs and the pitfalls to avoid

  • Who should consider more creative strategies when dealing with their student loan debt

  • How to make a plan of your own

We also heard stories from lawyers who are in the middle of their student loan debt journey (myself included!) and how we’ve approached the issue throughout our careers.

My clients come to me seeking guidance on a number of financial issues, but figuring out the best student loan repayment strategy for them is high on the list.
