Wearing a mask is exhausting - especially figuratively. As lawyers, mothers and even people we often wear masks to feel like we are fitting the part, but at what cost? Once you are able to remove your mask you won’t believe the freedom you will feel! Freedom to be YOU and to do all the things you want in life….like maybe travel? Or maybe stay home and NEVER travel....

Check out a couple LinkedIn posts you may have missed including a #FridayFunday Question and see what decision you would make!

Wednesday, May 19, 2021 - Wearing a Mask

Do you ever feel like someone who just plays a lawyer on tv? When I was practicing, I’d put on my fancy lawyer mask and go about my day, pretending to enjoy my work, the adversarial interactions, and all the lawerly things lawyers like. But it wasn’t the real me

Even though I was a successful, real life lawyer, it always felt a little like a role I was playing in my own life.

And I was a good actor.

I remember pumping myself up in my office before I’d head over to talk to the partner about our next move on a case. I’d almost puff up my chest to prepare to rage about how annoying and baseless opposing counsel’s claims were, so no one could see I really didn’t care that much.

I’m much more collaborative than combative, but that didn’t seem like the right way to be.

So I used all my energy trying to be something else all day long, and at the end of every day I was just exhausted.

Yes, from the work.

But also from the mask.

I’m now completely obsessed with my work, in the best way. I help my clients figure out how to pursue their own dreams, no matter the salary, and I wake up every day so excited to get started.

And I have so much energy, it’s kind of crazy.

I guess that mask was heavier than I realized.

Have you ever worn a mask?

Friday, May 21, 2021 - Friday Funday Question

Some of us are rooted where we are and some of us have a wanderlust spirit. So now that I finally have my RV, it’s got me thinking...would you rather spend the rest of your life in the same home (for ease of analysis we’ll say the one you’re in now) and never travel anywhere else OR travel for the rest of your life, never being able to stay in one place for more than a month?
